June is the busiest time of a wildlife photographer in Finland! Most animals have their offspring born and are actively moving around with them, teaching them the hard realities of life. Flowers are blooming and the nature is back to its green glory after the long winter and spring time. Days are long and the air is (usually) warm. What could be better?

Join me to see and photograph the beautiful nature of summery Helsinki! Learn with me how to take eye-catching photos of wild animals and how to use editing software to make them even better.

This will be the most large-scale and diverse workshop I have ever hosted, with the most information and the best possibilities for good wildlife photos.

Workshop program:

  1. Walking & Photographing

We will meet in nature at very early morning (around 5 am), when the animals are most active, the light of the rising Sun should be the most beautiful and the rest of the city is still sleeping. We will walk around in a forest next to the sea and photograph whatever we can find. We should be able to see many different kind of animals, including red squirrels, waterfowl with their babies and many other smaller bird species. If we are lucky we may also see a glimpse of a fox, deer, an owl or some other animal.

We will spend at least 4 hours photographing (and of course enjoying some breakfast in the middle). When the Sun is up on the sky and the nearby city is slowly waking up, we will have some free time. You can stay longer in the nature or head to the center of Helsinki to enjoy the city life, maybe grab of cup of coffee and find a nice place for a brunch/lunch.

  2. Editing

After resting a little from the busy morning, it is time to take off our memory cards and see what we got. We will meet in an indoor class room in the afternoon (around 1 pm). I will show my photo editing workflow and share all the best editing tricks & tips I’ve learned trough the years. Together we will edit the best shots we got in the morning and make them shine!

I will also tell shortly about social media (especially Instagram): How to publish high quality photos and grow your social media audience. We have around 3 hours for the indoor part, and we will finish the workshop around 4 pm in the afternoon.

To make sure you don’t forget anything important after the workshop, I will send you a PDF-file with a recap of what we learned that day (wildlife photography, editing & social media).

For who?

This workshop is suitable for anyone (over 15 year old) who is interested in nature, animals or photography. You don’t need to be a professional photographer. The workshop is especially good for beginners or advanced photographers. However, it’s good if you are at least somehow familiar with your camera, so you can spend more time focusing on taking great photos. Still no worries if you’re not. I’m there to teach you!

The workshop is hosted in English. If you understand what you’re reading now, it should be enough!

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Camera (+lenses)

  • Clothes suitable for outdoors

  • Laptop (for the editing part)

More detailed instructions will be sent to everyone later.
