In October, Helsinki's autumnal nature is at its most beautiful. Although the weather may be grey, the bright colors of yellow, orange and red offer endless opportunities for stunning photographs. Winter is just around the corner and animals are actively searching for food.
For who?
This workshop is mainly meant for beginners but more advanced photographers are of course also welcome to join. We’ll adjust the teaching depending on your skills and experience.
You can come alone or with your partner, family member, friend etc.
What do we do?
In this workshop we will search and photograph any animals we can find - the main targets being red squirrels and small forest birds. I will teach you how to capture the natural beauty in your pictures, using which ever camera gear you have. Starting from the optimal camera settings and ending with the different techniques of approaching wild animals.
Where and when?
We meet in Helsinki where we’ll have two different locations close to each others with beautiful autumnal parks, forest and sea view. Both places have a high population of half-tamed red squirrels and birds that are rather easy to approach and photograph. With a bit of luck we might also see some more rare species.
The workshops are held in October 2022. We will agree on the specific day together. We will spend approximately 2-4 hours photographing and learning outdoors.
What do I need?
You should bring your own camera and any different kind of lenses you may have. Some of the animals can come very close to us but others will remain at further distance so it’s possible to take some photos even with a wide angle lens but in most cases a lens >200mm is very useful. It may also be possible to take some photos with phone camera. I will send you a more detailed list of suggested gear closer to the date.
After photographing:
When we’re done with our pictures outdoors we can head indoors to a local coffee place to learn photo editing with laptops. If you’re not interested in the editing part, we can also just call it a day.

325€ (incl. 24% VAT) for maximum of 2 persons
+100€ for additional persons - maximum group size is 5
Workshop may be cancelled/postponed in case of bad weather (heavy rain or wind).

Nature and wildlife have been my biggest interest since I was a little boy. I have been photographing nature for seven years now and have organised dozens of nature photography workshops and excursions in Southern Finland. I am confident that I can teach you a lot of new things about Finnish nature and how to capture it in photographs.
